Change Your Password
Your password represents your security on the University's networks. Treat it with the same care you would your PIN number for your debit and credit cards - keep it to yourself!
Things you should know about your U of G passwords:
- they are case-sensitive
- they must be 10 to 30 characters in length
- they should be hard to guess by somebody else, but easy for you to remember so you don't have to write it down (e.g., a song lyric, a meaningful phrase, etc)
- they should not be a word that can be found in a dictionary of any language
- they should be a mix of characters, including members of at least three groups of: capital letters, lower case letters, numbers, and simple punctuation or special characters such as $ ( ) ! + - _ . = { }
- please note that these characters are not allowed as they may be problematic for some applications: < > ' " ; , @ \ % & `
- they should be changed regularly - at least once a year
- they should never be re-used - each of your accounts should have a unique password (too hard to keep track? Use a password manager).
More tips on selecting and managing your password can be found in the Manage Your Password section of the CCS IT Help Centre's Protect your PC Guide.
Please ensure you subscribe to the Self-Service Password Reset service. This services allows you to reset a forgotten password, however, it only works if you're subscribed and have set your security questions BEFORE you forget your password.
Changed passwords will take 5 to 10 minutes to synchronize to our Microsoft Single Sign-on (SSO) service. Following this delay you will be able to access GryphMail, WebAdvisor, CourseLink, and all other services using your new password.
